The last time I reviewed and tested the Avast SecureLine VPN app, the results were angled to a much more positive outcome. However, sometimes VPN performance results always vary from year to year, especially if it’s to do with unblocking a service like Netflix. So, does Avast VPN unblock Netflix in 2021?
The short answer is no! It’s unfortunate that Avast VPN servers no longer unblock Netflix.
What went wrong with Avast VPN on Netflix?
The Avast VPN used to work pretty well a while ago, especially to unblock services like Netflix from anywhere in the world. It was despite the VPN provider having limited servers in only 34 countries worldwide. When we last tested Avast, the VPN offered dedicated servers to help unblock Netflix, which included USA servers (Gotham City, Miami, and New York.)
Now, when I re-tested Avast VPN with Netflix, to get the US library, I always see this message:
There are many Netflix error codes, which show you exactly where the issue lies. However, in my case, and in other reviews of user experiences, the error code of F7111-5059 usually occurs when Netflix security technologies detect the use of a VPN to access its service.
This issue will most likely appear sometimes out of bad luck, or in most cases where the VPN you are using isn’t strong enough to bypass the Netflix geo-restrictions.
The Netflix blocks are far too strong for a VPN like Avast to manage, and neither is it possible to dodge the blacklisting list with its simple server network. However, it doesn’t entirely mean you won’t be able to access Netflix at all. There are still other far more reliable and affordable Netflix VPNs that can help unblock it and bypass the VPN streaming error code.
For this, I recommend using Surfshark. Among the many Netflix VPNs I’ve tested, it is by far one of the best. The other plus side is that Surfshark makes quite an affordable choice. It offers a fairly large network of 3200+ servers in 65 countries, with almost all of its US servers optimized for accessing the US Netflix library.
Other perks include a sound security system to protect your anonymity and data online, even while trying to access Netflix. Sometimes the laws in various countries are different; some more harsh than others. It is also one of the reasons why some VPNs aren’t reliable enough to unblock a number of censored or geo-restricted streaming services, apps or websites.
Surfshark has bypassed a number of obstacles, which was all recorded when my team and I tested the Surfshark VPN app. Plus, with just one subscription, you will be able to connect to unlimited streaming devices etc. If you aren’t too sure about this provider, there is afree trial and refund periodyou can use to test the VPN out on Netflix and more.
How to unblock Netflix with Surfshark
- Subscribe and create your Surfshark VPN account
- Download and install the app on your streaming device.
- Connect to a US server, or any server depending on which library you’d want to unblock
- Open the Netflix app, and start streaming!
Why is Avast SecureLine VPN not working with Netflix?
Avast VPN is a pretty great VPN provider, with suitable security and other features. However, when it comes down to a service like Netflix, there is a lot to get into. To unblock Netflix or access a particular library, the VPN you choose needs to be one of the strongest. There are a few VPN feature requirements that will allow you to bypass the strict blocks, which is something Avast can’t offer. Here is what’s needed:
- Extensive server network to unblock not just Netflix, but multiple of its libraries. If a VPN comes with a small network and manages to have its IP addresses blacklisted, how are you going to unblock the service?
- Great security protection is another thing to look into, which will help protect your virtual IP address while connected to the VPN.
- It should be able to unblock not just Netflix, but other services with equally harsh restrictions such as Hulu or BBC iPlayer.
- Fast speeds are the added perk. The Avast VPN speeds weren’t up to mark and scored far slower than most VPN providers.
These points are only a few reasons why Avast SecureLine VPN might not be the best choice for Netflix. For this reason, I recommend using Surfshark.
FAQs
Does Avast VPN unblock Netflix?
No, Avast VPN can’t unblock Netflix due to most of its servers being blocked by the streaming giant itself. There are other VPNs that help to unblock Netflix with much success rate. I recommend using Surfshark. It comes with a free trial, a refund period, unlimited device connections and a wide variety of Netflix optimized servers.
Is Avast VPN good?
Yes, there is alot that Avast can offer, but only as a basic VPN provider. If you’re willing to use a VPN for simple needs such as limited streaming, normal speeds, then yes, Avast makes the cut. However, if a provider like Surfshark or another reliable VPN costs way less than Avast’s 2 and 3-year packages then why not go for that instead?
How to fix the Netflix block VPN issue?
Just in case your VPN is good, but isn’t working with Netflix, here’s what you can try to get it started again:
- Switch the VPN on and off.
- Update the software you’re using. Sometimes, it’s just as simple as that.
- Try another server.
- Clear the cookies and cache and start again.
- Test the VPN for any leaks after connecting to one of its servers.
- Contact the VPN support team and look into the matter further.
Can I use a free VPN for Netflix?
There are only a couple of free VPNs for Netflix that are reliable enough to use for Netflix. However, keep in mind that these providers aren’t completely free in the traditional sense. The free VPNs for Netflix list comprises of premium providers that offer a free trial or ones where you can hack a free trial using the refund period. Always remember that if Avast VPN isn’t something you’d like for Netflix and feel like going for a free provider instead, it wouldn’t be the best idea. Completely free VPNs aren’t safe, have limited servers, and steal or store user data. It does not come with the same encryption levels as a paid service. Surfshark offers a free trial and a refund period you can use for free on Netflix.
To conclude
To recap everything discussed in this guide, Avast VPN doesn’t unblock Netflix. However, as I’ve mentioned above, there are other fixes you can try to get the VPN working, but I doubt it’ll work either way. Netflix has blocked most of the Avast server, so your chances are below average. Instead, I’ve recommended using a VPN like Surfshark that has had a far greater success rate. Plus, the VPN comes with a large server network and is affordable.
